With the Sound of Music
You may not realize this, but this popular, award-winning movie was based upon the life of an actual musical family called The Trapp Family Singers. While some of the details of this 1965 movie are fictional, a lot of it is based upon fact. Georg Von Trapp, a widower with 7 children, married a former nun named Maria. During World War II they escaped the Nazis and eventually settled in the United States. But according to Joan Gearin in Movie vs. Reality: The Real Story of the von Trapp Family, Georg was a very loving and doting father while Maria was the one with the temper! Georg and Maria had three children together: Rosmarie, Eleanor and Johannes, making for a total of ten Trapp children.
This movie is a lavish production with beautiful music and lush scenery. It is not surprising at all that it is still popular today, over 50 years since it was released.
